"Bucharest, Dec 12 /Rompres/ - The schedule of events to be held in Romania in 2006 to celebrate the Francophony Year was officially released on Monday at a press conference hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), in the presence of state secretary for Francophony Affairs Cristian Preda and French Ambassador in Romania Herve Bolot.

"The year 2006 will witness the organisation in Romania, September 25-29, of the Francophony Summit Meeting, where heads of state or governments from the 63 member countries of the International Organisation of the Francophony will attend. The summit will be accompanied by large-scale cultural events," state secretary Preda said. He added that the theme for debates to be suggested by Romania for the summit meeting will relate to the use of information technology in education.

Ambassador Bolot mentioned that a series of culture events will be held in Romania in each month of 2006 under the sign of the French-speaking world: French-speaking film festivals, symposia, exhibitions, conferences, book releases, meetings of French teachers and other events related to the Francophone spirit. Involved in the organisation of these events will by the Romanian Government, via its Inter-ministerial Committee for the Francophony, the French, Canadian and Belgian embassies in Romania, as well as the bodies of the International Organisation of the Francophony.

Also attending the official release on Monday at the MAE were Canadian ambassador in Romania Franco Pillarella and diplomatic official of the Wallonia-Brussels delegation Daniel Sotiaux.
