Translation agency using "adult service" phone number Thread poster: Jean-Philippe Drécourt

Hello all,
I just received an application from an agency located in Camden, London who was offering cheap but not unrealistically low prices for Translation + Proofreading + Review through a quite professional looking email. The only problem is: their phone number is a "0908" number, which in Britain is reserved to adult services and charged at up to £1.50/min.
So keep an eye out for these!
Hope this helps,

So even if they only receive queries from would-be translators seeking work, they can still make a profit on the calls, even if they don't actually handle any translation work at all! This is handy to know...

Talk to me... Talk to me dirty... Talk to me about synonyms and false cognates... Talk to me about segments and match rates... Talk to me about three-cent jobs and the imminent demise of the translation market... Talk to me!

It's worth keeping an eye out for those "premium rate numbers! And, in fact, there are been a few cases of 0908 UK numbers used by job posters on ProZ.com in the past.
In the US, the "premium rate" numbers are "900 numbers" See, for instance, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premium-rate_telephone_number
