I recently responded to a job posting for an "International Recruitment Agency" who supposedly have a translation division and are based in Chicago.
Three aspects of their reply to my application rang alarm bells:

1) An internet search produced no results for a website or for a profile of the contact person of this "International agency;
2) The postal address/ contact number were both for western Africa, rather than Chicago and
3) To receive any work, initial "frais d'inscription" had to be paid.

Am I becoming cynical in old age or is there indeed something fishy about this company (I have purposefully avoided using their name just in case, but am happy to disclose in a private message).

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

How did they respond to your response? May 11, 2013

They sound decidedly dodgy to me.

Kinda fishy May 11, 2013

Personally, I never pay to work, I work to get paid.

At first glance, this does seem kinda fishy.

Well, here you have the 4 signs that make out a SCAM.

1) Of course, a search will not bring any results. Most probably because such a company doesn't exist.

2) Nigeria, maybe?

3) No legitimate agency will ask you to pay anything. In fact, they will pay you for the work you do.

4) No response to questions asked/Emails.

Just hit "Delete" and forget about it.icon_smile.gif

Is the name of the so-called recruitment agency May 11, 2013

very similar to a well-known jewelry company? They do not even know how to write "recruitment" in English (or in French for that matter). A clear scam! As others said, forget about it...

It seems that the old seaman's rhyme still applies...
