I too received it Sep 11, 2013

The funny thing is that this guy doesn't even care which language pair you work on, as long as you translate it.

Thanks, Lee -- and already posted in another thread. Sep 11, 2013

Another user reported this earlier here: http://www.proz.com/post/2196080#2196080

It seems as if the attachment is just a jpg, but your advice to not open it is wise.

Be safe out there, everyone!

Richard C Barnett is a scammer Sep 11, 2013

In addition to the grammatically incorrect English, there is another issue. Since I used to live near Bangor, Gwynedd, I know what the name of the street and postal code should be. Apparently he doesn't.

Well, first of all, I didn't know that potential editors, proofers, translators are addressed: "Ma". Surely, Lee, you are not a "Ma" (mom) (No offense intended, only a little humor)

The lower case "I" just might be the precise reason why he needs an editor.

Thank you for the warning.

Not the first time Sep 18, 2013

It is OBVIOUSLY a scam.
Not long ago I received a similar email. I felt suspicious since he didn't even mention the language (Idiot! lol) but I followed his game to see what he would do. I asked for a retainer of $500.00 before I started working on it.
He sent it...gave me a tracking number... and when I tracked it, guess what? It had been stopped by USPS. I inquired about it and all they could tell me is that it was a suspicious package.

Let's be VERY CAREFUL guys

me, too Oct 7, 2013

I got the same message recently, too, and while being a little suspicious I did open the file. Fortunately, nothing has happened so far and my virus scan didn't detect anything. It was a supposed "study" of cancer (Ding Dong - Alert!) in English needing a lot of editing work. Close call. I will definitely be more careful next time!

Happened to me too Dec 5, 2013

I received this email and at first thought it was from someone who didn't speak English. However quickly felt like something wasn't right.

"Morning Sir/Ma,

How are you doing today?
This is Richard Cloud co founder of Life is Precious a small orphanage home.
I need a creative and stand out web and banner designer.
Get back to me if you are available to start a designing work this week.
Awaits your response soonest.

Warm Regards.
Jimmy."

A later email:

How are you and your family doing today and I want to let you know that I got a mail from one of my sponsor that the check has been mail out to you which you will get this by this new week but there is a mistake with the amount on it he issue more than the price you quoted, when you receive the check i will like you to go ahead and deposit the check and when your account has been credited i will provide you with details where you will return the difference to and the extra fund is needed to provide shelter and drug for less privilege kids and organize seminar about the STD/AIDS program.

I need your phone number as well.

Warm Regard."

Thankfully I figured out that this wasn't legit. Guess they are targeting professional freelancers.

I fell for it... Dec 19, 2013

I completed the work he requested, and he sent me a bad check. the police are now involved. So unfortunate. I am now a not-so-gullible person anymore.
