Dear colleagues,

We have been alerted that there is someone using the gmail address "info101translations@gmail.com" and a tagline that contains the www.101translations.com URL.

These emails are NOT from 101translations and likely are a scam.

We have alerted Google to this misuse of a Gmail account but they haven't done anything to stop it.

If you receive such an email please do take a moment to report it to Google so that they hopefully will take action.

Here is what a recent such email looked like:

We need an English language Copywriter for Copywriting pages for website!

We need a professional Copywriter who will write himself or herslef 15 to 30 pages for website.

More evidence of the scam Jun 9

A translator forwarded us this exchange:

Obviously they are bent on impersonating our company. Beware!

Hi,

This is your Blueboard at Proz, and the website link in this page is http://www.101translations.com/. This website shows that its email is @101translations.com, so why is your email @gmail.com?

The website link at the bottom of your email (see yellow color below) leads to this website "http://www.intercombase.com/". Whi is it so?

Thank you for the warning Jun 9

Hello,

thank you for passing this on.

Yes, it reads like a scam, especially when the..."copywriter will write himself or herself 15 - 30 pages for website".

An England based agency surely won't attempt to attract translators by sending them emails in such a poor English. So I believe you are right assuming that it's a scam. Though I must admit that "because our website is down" is a new excuse, at least to me.

It comes to no surprise that Google doesn't react. Do they ever?

Jobs from this agency Jun 9

I did some jobs continuously for this agency.
I became suspicious of it recently.
Thanks to your warning.

The site doesn't exist. I wonder if it is their way of spreading malicious malware.

Report it to Spamcop Jun 11

Ask your contact for the full emails with headers etc. and report the address to Spamcop. It might help blocking their spam.

It looks like scammers are learning from their mistakes.
Requirements look more like a real-life request from a quality-oriented agency looking to develop and nurture sound and long-term relationships with their valued freelance translators.
I suspect that scams will soon include 20-page NDAs and a free timed translation test to look even more convincing.

It should be more realistic than the usual speech along the lines of "we're ready to pay whatever you ask and will include a little more for the bother."

Philippe
