I am looking for a way to use Trados to force translators into using specific translations of terms. We have term glossaries and use a number of different translators. I am looking for a solution in which translators would be forced into using the approve terminology so to be conistent etc. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Yes, Multiterm Apr 29, 2008

You can import your glossaries into Multiterm and enable term recognition in Workbench. Then the options in your glossaries will be available to the translators.
In order to import your glossaries you have to use Multiterm Convert. The documentation that comes with the software will guide you in the process.
You can also search the fora for "Multiterm Convert". You´ll find useful information.
Have a nice day!

Keep it simple Apr 29, 2008

Unless you opt for a Multiterm approach, you might consider importing all those term glossaries into the TM as well, so they will at least be available for concordance purposes. You could then encourage your translators to do concordance searches over and over again. Simple, but effective procedure. However, this demands a good TM management from your side. But it might work both ways, because also translators can report inconsistency issues, when they occur during a translation.

TagEditor + Multiterm Apr 29, 2008

If the translators are provided with the Multiterm database and use TagEditor, you could go to

Tools > Verifiers, SDL Trados Terminology Verifier, Properties (select the Termbase).

When the translation is finished, click on Verify (F8) and TagEditor will review the translation and check if the terms contained in the Multiterm base were used. A message will appear for any "weird" thing found, just click on that to go to the related segment and check what happened.

Kind regards
