Hello,

I've just installed SDL TRADOS Freelance 2007. I am doing a translation from Russian into French. The problem is that when I press Set/Close Next Open/Get button all the accents I put in the target text disappear... It's not transforming, it's disappearing.
But some time it comes back. I can't see why.

Is it some wrong Word settings?

Maybe somebody know a link to use for searching an answer?

Tnak you,
Serge

Hello Sergey,

Have you checked if the target fonts can handle French accents? That is usually the reason accents disappear.

Claudia

Trados/Word incompatible with Unicode... switch to Tag Editor... May 18, 2008

Although SDL claims this kind of problems were resolved in earlier releases, the Unicode support is still hypothetical in the doc/rtf workflow.
In some language pairs as FR-RU, RU-PL the chars are systematically corrupted on Set/Close even if all the formatting is cleared.

The first solution is to deal with the Asian language support (i.e. double byte languages).

SDL gives two contradictory solutions, i.e.:
1) install the Asian laguage support
See the SDL Trados release notes on your PC.
2) uninstall the Asian language support
See http://talisma.sdl.com/display/2n/kb/article.aspx?aid=1859&n=20&s=1

I.e. they don't know what they're doing.

Me, I install always all the languages and encodings (because I need a lot of them in my localization projects).

The second solution is to switch the Language for Non-Unicode Programs
Generally, it's a very bad idea to change the default non unicode code page but you may try to to look how it works (it may harm the comportment of many programs).

In fact, it proves Trados is not Unicode compatible in the Word environment.

Switch to TagEditor.

Cheers
GG
