In ttx/rtf files created out of FrameMaker files.

Is there an easy and quick way for the translator to know when a text is an index entry or standard text?

You can recognize them by the following external tags:
<imk ?> Index marker
<ie> Index entry
<il> Index entry sub-entry

In the STF file it would look like this (this is from Trados sample file):

<imk 1>
<ie>TRADOS S-Tagger for Interleaf
<il>general information about
</imk>

I can easily see the greyish "ie" tag to the left of the text.

The problem is that a different translation should exist for, e.g. "parametric EQ information" when the text is a title or an index entry.
In the index entry "paramteric EQ" should go first, while in the title "information" will appear first.

I guess the solution is to allow double translations in the memory.

Maybe a stupid question: can index entries tags be changed into internal? and will that help?
