Hello,

I notice Trados puts my full name in all my TM entries (Created by: ...). Is it possible to change that? I'm running Trados 2007.

Best wishes,
Tom

In Settings / User-ID you can change your ID and that is, what Trados uses for that, so if you something else then your full name, initials or something, your should be good.

Go into Translator's Workbench and close the translation memory, then under "Settings", click on "User ID" and change your user name there.

Create a new TM without the user fields Sep 10, 2008

As far as I know, you can only indicate whether the user name should be included when you create a TM (deselect the system fields "Creation user" and "Change user" in the "Create Translation Memory" window), but you cannot change this afterwards.

However, you can create a new TM without these system fields and import the data from your current TM. Your name will no longer be shown or be added to any new segments you add to the TM.

User ID? Sep 10, 2008

Is it possible that you only want to put a shorter name or an ID, not your full name? Would changing the contents of Settings > User ID (only enabled when the memory is closed) work for you?

Search and replace your name in the exported TM Sep 10, 2008

You can also just open the exported TM (in Notepad, for example) and do a search and replace operation, if you only want to do this for this particular TM.

Notepad can be really slow and can even freeze if you try this on a largish TM. You may want to get another text editor. One that is really fast and can handle regular expressions is EmEditor. Unfortunately, it's not free. But if you frequently handle large text files, it's worth the price.

Use Translation Memory Maintenance Sep 10, 2008

You can also change the user directly in a TM using File->Maintenance->Find and Replace->System Fields->Creation user. You'll have to create a new user with the desired name first, switch over the segment(s) to the new user, perform the change of name, then delete the original user.

Before you click on the Find And Replace command, use the Filter command to specify the retrieval of all segments created (or modified as the case may be) by the original user (in your case, all the segments in the TM).

The Filter command provides great flexibility, since you can choose to restrict the change of user name to all segments in the TM, or to a restricted set based on creation date etc.
