After quite a long period, finally I managed to work out the SDL Trados in Office 2007. I can now access the trados via add-ins in word 2007. However, every time I open the file I am working on now, all the add-ins setting that I have set previously would disappear. Does anyone have this experience and know how to tackle it? I tried to find save button in the add-ins setting, but couldn't find one. What should I do? thanks!

Could be that you haven't administrative rights in the relevant folders Jan 18, 2009

Be sure that you have administrative rights in Windows. Especially below: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\TRADOS\

and below your MS Office installation.

try moving the macro... Jan 18, 2009

... to a different folder. Then, add it manually using the Word menu (Tools/Macros...) and load manually after any time you need it.

I have many add-ons, but they never load at start-up... I load them manually after I start Word depending on the task at hand, otherwise you will get too many tool bars and "low memory" artefacts...

Basically that's what I do now. Every time I open a word file I have to add manually the trados template etc. But that's what I don't like. I want it to be practical hence came up with the question how to keep the setting?

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I couldn't find the the application data

what I have C:|documentand settings\All Users\
then there are 4 folders: desktop, favourites, shared documents and start menu.
I did find SDl trados in shared documents folder and in the SDL Trados there are only one folder entitled sample.

Where is actually I have to check the administrative rights?

thanks

Hidden folder Jan 19, 2009

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\TRADOS\
(as well as many other sub-folders) is under a hidden folder.
[C:\Documents and Settings has a number invisible for security purpose. You must set the folder option to unhide all hidden folders.]

Tools/Folder options... Jan 19, 2009

Select Tools / Folder options / View. Then check the "Show hidden files and folders" or the "Do not show hidden files and folders" box.

still not working Jan 19, 2009

I have checked and I do have the administrative rights in my name. Only one person uses this computer (i.e. me). But still every time I close the file I am working on at the moment, teh setting for Trados add -in would disappear and when I reopen the file I have to reset again.

Is this because Office 07 is not compatible with SDL Trados 07?

what's the trados version Jan 20, 2009

only trados 2008, aka trados 8, is compatible with ms office 2007. when you installed it, your mso will have its own sdl trados tab, not as add-in.

Making a template or add-in available whenever you start Word Jan 27, 2009

Hello, the answer in found in the help section of Word 2007

To have a template or add-in available whenever you start Word, store the add-in or template in the Startup folder. By default, the Startup folder is located in one of the following folders:

Windows Vista
c:\Users\user name\AppData\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows XP
c:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP

I personally am running Vista and the default folder for me was:
C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP

If the location of the Startup folder has changed, you can find it by doing the following:

Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Word Options.
Click Advanced.
Under General, click File Locations.

Once the file is copied to the correct STARTUP folder, the template will startup everytime

Hope this helps others.

Thank you! However I still can't have all the trados buttons come up whenever I open a file. For example the fix document button is not there and some other buttons which I could previously see on the Word 2003...

I have checked their website and couldn't find Trados 2008. The latest version they have is SDl Trados 2007 SP2 which I have already had. Where can I find Trados 2008?
