Having been very chuffed at managing to upgrade/install Trados 2007 on my new Vista/Office 2007 computer, I seem to have come across a problem. That, or i've gone totally mad.

Sequence of events:
1. I translated the document in Word, using Workbench.
2. I then hid the hidden text, and edited the document directly in Word, without opening any new units.
3. I saved the document.
4. I cleaned up the document, ensuring the "update TM" option was ticked.
5. But when i opened the clean document, all of the edits that i had spent several hours making (but without actually opening translation units, simlpy editing the Word file), had been deleted.

So essentially I have just lost several hours' work of fine editing.

Have I gone mad - I might have fallen asleep at my desk and dreamed i did the editing. Or is there a problem that I'm missing? I always worked with Trados 2006 in this way andit has never happened before.

BAK. file Jan 20, 2009

Hi! you would be having a .bak file which is usually a bilingual file. Rename it as .doc and load the blingual file. Save a secure copy in a different sub-folder. BR Brandis

Don't hide the text Jan 20, 2009

Hiding the text and editing directly in Word may well be the problem.

The natural way of working in Trados is to display both the source and target segments all the time, when translating and when making any amendments/corrections. That way you can be sure everything goes both into your text and into the translation memory. Then the very last thing you do is to clean it up.

During the cleaning, which option was chosen for changed translations? If it was "update document" then it could happen as you have described.
