I know that when translating in TagEditor this type of conversion is not necessary. However, recently I was asked a couple of times to perform this conversion in order to prepare an Indesign file for translation into several languages when translators would not use TagEditor due to some reason.

So, I suppose need a way to get a Workbench RTF file with tags of the .inx file formatted with Trados tw4winExternal and tw4winInternal styles.

Is it possible?

Yes: use TWB/Tools/Analyse (your inx files) and Export unknown segments (up to 99% fuzzies) into a workbench.rtf.
The TM that will be built translating these rtf files will afterwards almost completely translate the inx files.

Or use TTXpress Feb 9, 2009

TTXpress supposedly allows you to open TTX files directly in Word:

There's another link floating around somewhere, but it's dead (domain no longer registered)
