I ahve just finished translating a large project and now I want to save the Target file, and I get the following error message:"...End tag does not have a matching start tag", and it does not save the target file. What can I do?

Hello Nigel,

I guess this is a rather common issue in Trados. Please refer to the following posts:

Hope this helped.

1) Activate Generic Tag Verifier & 2) run Verification Mar 16, 2009

Dear Nigel

I seems that while translating you've erased or forgotten to insert a tag. You should search the place where the tag is missing. One of the previous topics I read (the only one I read, BTW) does not tell you how you can detect that missing tag. It only recommends you to retranslate the whole thing. This would work if the erased tag is outside a translation segment.
But, if you have deleted it inside the translation segment, I would suggest you, that in TagEditor, go to
Tools > Plug-ins > (select:) SDL TRADOS Generic Tag Verifier > OK

Next, go to TOOLS > VERIFY
clic on it and TagEditor will proceed to a quality assurance of the file. Next, a report will be created and you might be able to clic on the error message, and go directly to the segment the tag error. There, insert the missing tag.

Kind regards

Clarisa Moraña

re-translate the sentences with error message Aug 1, 2009

I managed to tackle the same problem in this way:
1. use "tag verifier" in "tools"
2. locate each error message
3. open the workbench for that line
4. copy original instead of entering translation, overwrite the copied text
5. save and close
6. verify again. the error message for this line would be gone.
