I'm trying to clean up a document from work bench but it won't convert into word document as a 'start tag doesn't have end tag'. What option can I use to locate this missing tag?

Also, i've translated the document in tag editor. When I save it, it is a word document with ttx at the end of it. How can I make it into a ttx file?

Many thanks,

Laura

Tools - Plug-ins - Generic Tag verifier May 8, 2009

Please select that one in Tools - Plug-Ins, then press OK. Then press F8 and wait for results.
After you get the results list double click the error message and TagEditor will bring you where the tag is missing. At the same time the missing tag will be selected in your source text, so what you need now is simply open the segment and place exactly that missing tag in your target.
Next time when working and getting the warning "Tag is missing" or "Extra tag" check the translated segment before you continue.

Maybe this will work for you May 8, 2009

Laura
One thing which may work is if you go to to "View" in MS Word
then click on Macros, and then on View Macros
If you have installed TRADOS you should see a macro called:
tw4.Clean.Main. Select it and click on "Run"
This usually works for me; I hope it does for you too

Next problem May 8, 2009

Thanks for your help, i've got the tag problem solved now.
My agency is looking for a file with .ttx (i think) but when i save my file it automatically makes it into a word document.
So I do the clean-up in workbench and then get an error message: this file cannot not be saved as tag editor as it was saved in bilingual word format.
Help!!

Please, what are you doing - be precise if possible May 8, 2009

Did you translate the file in TagEditor?
Which file can't be cleaned up?
Why do you use cleanup for TTX files? For those files better use "Save target as" from TagEditor.

So please try to describe your proces precise here:
Ie
I received the file from customer.
Opened it in Tageditor
Cleaned that ttx file
Delivered Word to customer
and so on...

Thanks
Jerzy

TTX May 8, 2009

Hi Laura,
I assume you have translated the document in TagEditor. That means you still have a TTX file created by TagEditor. This is the file the translation agency wants you to deliver.

However, I would strongly recommend reading the manual and playing with Trados a little before you accept further projects. It might save you many troubles, questions, and sleepless nights.

This is what i did: May 8, 2009

I received word files from agency
I opened Trados synergy and set up project with two files in it
I created a TM and imported the TM they sent me
I opened the file in Tageditor and connected to Workbench so that i could use TM
Translated file
Verified file after choosing plug-ins: Spelling Wordtree, generic tag and QA (only punctuation).

During work i would use 'ctrl S' to save my work
at the end of translation, I did 'save as' bi lingual file.

Over to Workbench: import the bi lingual file.
Clean up file and TM

This is when i get an error message: cannot safe as ttx because file was saved in Word.

The strange thing is that the files I'm sending back are listed as Tradostag Document. They have .... doc.ttx at the end.
Am I doing something wrong?

Not really May 8, 2009

I still don't understand how do you come to have a Word billingual file.
But nevertheless - using Synergy NO cleanup and no Workbench extra is necessary.
Just follow the steps you did, but create the target file in Synergy. Use the options provided there.
That should be enough.

And Stanislav is right, just read a bit about what you are doing, for example in the Help file or in the Manual. Manuals for Synergy and Workbench ain't that badicon_smile.gif

Thank you May 8, 2009

Thank you very much for your help. The agency now seems okay with the files.
And trust me, I've read every help file available twice by now!
But I will fiddle about with the whole lot over the weekend, so that I'm ready for the next project. Have a nice weekend, Laura
