Dear All,

I hope there are any specialists on this topic online at the moment! And I hope I posted my question in the correct forum. My question is as follows:

I have to access a server-based TM for a translation in SDLX. I have some links to it, I have a user name and I have a password. After some trials, I got access somehow to the server, even saw the two files (one a TM, one additional reference material) there, but when I tried to open it for downloading nothing happens. Following a message that appears:
Daily limit reached: you will not be able to transfer data

"In order to guarantee the fair use of the web server for everyone, the data transfer volume and script execution time are limited per user, and per day. Once this limit is reached, you can still browse the FTP server but not transfer data to/from it.

If you need unlimited usage, please install net2ftp on your own web server."

Is it possible that the agency's time is "exausted" and I should only try it later or early tomorrow morning? Or might there be any problem with my own computer settings (like a firewall or other)?

I haven't worked with a server-based TM before and as it seems, the PM of the agency is either unknowledgeable as I myself.

Any help and suggestions how to proceed are appreciated (because the end client insists on using the TM for the translation).

Thanks in advance!

Annett

Probably access rights issue May 22, 2009

Hi Annett,

Based on my experience working with Tm servers, I'd say that this problem is related to the access rights that you have been given by the end client.

On server-based projects you usually work with local translation files and server access allows you to link to Tm and other reference material for consultation and also to feed Tm as you translate.

Check if SDLX allows you to link Tm and get concordances. If so, you should also be able to setup SDLX system so your translation feeds remote Tm.

In case that you cannot access Tm, try the net2ftp installation (I don't know this tool) and, if that does not work either, you should ask client to check and correct your access rights.

I hope that this helps

Alex

In the meantime I also got a support email from the agency's IT-specialist who also refered me to net2ftp - and it really worked in the end, although I had to try several times. Now I can get down to work.

Thank you very much - have a nice evening!
Annett

I am not sure you get the point about 'server-based TM'... May 22, 2009

What you are saying does not look like a server-based TM process. If it really is server-based, then the only thing you need is the access credentials. If you connect, the software does everything itself: loading TM into Workbench, opening term-recognition... You just translate. Period.

What I suspect is that you have been offered to download a TM and reference materials from the customer's FTP-server to work off-line, locally, on your computer. It is something 'very different'. After you download the data, you just hook it up and work as usually.

Good morning, Sergei,
I think you are right. I wondered about it myself and came to the same conclusion. There is a difference between a server-based TM and a TM that is sent via a server - I only just relized that. So, I have downloaded the TM to my PC and can now work with it. After the translation, I update it and send it back to the agency. Maybe the problem was that I hadn't installed some kind of server client to get access and download the files.

Oof, I'm not an IT-specialist, unfortunately........

Thanks for the hint - and have a nice day!
Annett
