I've got the message "Error while converting to word document", I use MS Word 2007 and just bought Trados 2009 Freelance Plus 9.1.0.0.

I got the same message when I run Preview Target.

What should I do?

When opening a Microsoft Word document in TagEditor, the error message (80005): Error while reading file is shown. When opening a Microsoft Word document in TagEditor, the error message (80005): Error while reading file is shown. Similarly, when saving a document as target in TagEditor or running the Clean Up command in Translator's Workbench, the error messages Error while converting document to Word and Error while writing Word file may be shown.

Explanation
TagEditor cannot open or save the document because it has become corrupt. The document needs to be repaired before it can be translated.

Resolution
Try the following alternatives to troubleshoot the problem:
Open and repair the document:

Open Microsoft Word and then select Open from the File menu.
The Open window is displayed. Select the original Word document but do not open it at this point.
Click the small arrow next to the Open button and choose Open and Repair from the drop-down menu.
Accept the changes made by Word.
Save the document.
Open the new document again and retranslate using the Translate to Fuzzy command.
Save the translation.

If this is not successful, then try saving the file as a .rtf file and then back to .doc. To do this:

Open the source file in Microsoft Word.
Go to File > Save as... to open the Save As dialog box.
Under the Save as Type option, choose Rich Text Format (*.rtf).
Click Save. Then close the document.
Re-open the saved .rtf document in Word.
Go to File > Save as... to open the Save As dialog box.
Under the Save as Type option, choose Word Document (*.doc).
Open the new .doc file in TagEditor and see if it opens without errors.
Retranslate the document using the Translate to Fuzzy command.
Save the translation.

If this is still not successful, then try the following:

Open the original document in Word
Copy all the text from the corrupt document: press Ctrl + A to highlight all, then press Ctrl + C to copy all the text.
Create a new, blank document.
Paste all the text from the corrupt document to the new document: press Ctrl + V.
Save the new file as a Word document (.doc) and open it in TagEditor.
Retranslate the document using the Translate to Fuzzy command.
Save the translation.
If you are still encountering problems, contact a technical support representative for a closer look at the document.
