I've heard frequently about SDL Trados users to specialize, if we can say like that, in SDLX or in Trados Workbench, or there are trainings for either field. WHat are they exactly? What is the difference?

To put it briefly Jun 23, 2009

SDLX and Trados are two completely different products and former competitors. Since (I think) 2006 when Trados (a German company) was swallowed by SDL (an Irish company) both products have been offered in one bundle.
I suggest that you visit www.translationzone.com or www.sdl.com to learn more.

Lay out and pre-conversion Jun 23, 2009

There are many differences between the two cats, beginning with the lay out. Trados has an above-below lay out and SDLX a side by side one. Also in order to translate a file with SDLX you must convert it in an itd file, with Trados, instead, you need normally not conversion at all. I translate with both cat tools. Sometimes a change is amusing. Some agencies work only with SDLX.
