Translation in Word --> Trados 2009

One of the things I do is literary translation. With this type of work, it is very, very helpful to be able to use a thesaurus on target words. So what I've done in the past is to translate in Word using the Trados plug-in so that I have the Word thesaurus available.

Is there a way to use Trados 2009 in a similar way, either by translating in Word or by using the Word thesaurus from within Trados?
