I think MultiTerm 2009 deserves the same kind of attention as Studio 2009, so I am starting it with my point. I invite you to reposte, like I do (see below), so that we (and SDL) have one point to turn to,

[01] The strange problem of (lack of) termbase recognition - see
http://www.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/140405-the_strange_problem_of_lack_of_termbase_recognition.html

[02] useless names for MultiTerm databases used - or "what happened to MTBmaster.mdb" - ibidem (not a bug, but a showstopper nevertheless)

[03] Termbase disconnect on Studio 2009 restart - ibidem. Not a bug, just a feature (sg), but nasty all the same.

[02] how to change from unfriendly to friendly names Jul 26, 2009

Instead of storing friendly names in one place (MTBmaster.mdb in 2007) every Termbase (i.e. mdb) handles its friendly name itself. Per default those "friendly" names stay as they are, but you can change them yourself (you will need a couple of pretty rudimentary steps in Access to do that).

i) open the "unfriendly named" mdb file with Access
ii) Open the table "mtBlobs"
iii) Change the entry in the first line (blob, called "friendly name") to whatever is easier for you
iv) save the mdb and exit

Regards

Vito

PS:the "sdltlb" files seem to be retty much plain-vanilla Access (i.e. mdb-format) files. At least, as far as the problem and the solution described above are concerned.

The problem of double entries has yet to be adressed Oct 1, 2009

Sometimes (well, too often) I happen to load some XML file, generated with MultiTerm convert, not just once, but twice or even four times (twioce times twice). If this is too rich or too ridiculous for your taste, think of all the moments, when you added a term twice from TWB (just to be sure). Of course you got it vback twice right away in the next segment with the term entered (it is not funny...)

The 2009 has come halfway from where 2007 used to be: it allows at least the user to identify the suspects. However, (here's the missing mileage) you can delete the superfuous records only one at a time.

Believe me, this is not funny. And it takes an inordinate amount of time, even with files with a few thousand records. For now, the only practical solution I see is:

i) export the complete Terminology file to XLS
ii) clean up the mess in Excel
iii) recreate the termbase from the edited spreadsheet.

But I hope that some time soon ...

Regards

Vito

PS: the point recorded yesterday in the http://ideas.sdltrados.com
