Hi, have any of you had this problem? I've got some suggested solutions, problem is none of them have worked for me, but they might do for you! Obviously any further suggestions for solutions will be gladly received!

I have been trying to install Trados 2009 on my home PC, running Win XP Home (this becomes key...). The installer goes through a number of processes, until when it finishes 'Copying new files' it starts 'rolling back action' before a dialogue box appears "The task did not complete. The error is: Package'SDL Trados Studio 2009' could not be installed. Fatal error during installation. Error number: 1603"

I have since been trying to find a solution, both through googling and conversations with SDL support - I'll outline what I understand, what has been suggested and what I've tried so far here:

I checked to make sure that the latest version of .Net was installed (http://www.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/35754-trados_70_installation_error_microsoft_net_framework.html suggests there may be a link to that)

I was then advised to check http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834484
This seems to be relevant, however:
1) The Folder was not encrypted
2) The process described to grant permission to the SYSTEM drive is not possible on XP Home edition (you can do it in the Pro edition)

The next steps recommended by SDL was

a) Delete all the files in the temporary folder
b) De-register and re-register Windows Installer

I was able to delete MOST of the files in the temp folder, but some were 'in use' and could not be deleted. I de-registered and re-registered Windows Installer.

I still had the same problem, the next step recommended by SDL was to create a new admin user account and try using that - still no luck!

I'm posting here to see if anyone has got any suggestions as to what I could try next, and to share the suggestions that I've had so far....

Thanks in advance

The next piece of advice I've had is to look in the Logs at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SDL\Chainer\Logs...

The log is big (18MB) but these sections seem to be relevant (I'm no IT specialist, though):

This was the key, it seems... after some googling I found that if I restarted Windows in Safe Mode, I could delete all the temporary files no problem.... Then Trados 2009 installed....

same here... Oct 17, 2009

I had a similar issue. I had the original version of Studio, and I downloaded the service pack. I followed the installation instructions...

I tried to create a new project and it returned an error message every time. Then I simply couldn't open the program. I went back to the earliest restoration point before the install, and the disaster: issues with my antivirus, could not open Studio...

Is this going to be the NORM with SDL? Always a huge problem every time they come out with a solution??? This is just frustrating... I followed the advice in this post, and I was able to start the installer. I hope it works now...
