I finished a job last week, where at one point, segment refused to open.
The workbench could inform me that there was some ending missing - and any attempt to Fix-doc, save and re open, download again and start over using fuzzy, etc - all failed. Segment was damaged.

I decided to use "INSERT" to get on with the job and informed my client of this, when returning the file...

There's of course no bi-lingual to this "segment", I also had a slight prob cleaning, but it seemed fine until I opened it again today. Now, just opening + closing, I get the percurliar message:
Do you wish to save changes to TRADOS8.dot?
I've made NO CHANGES NOW.

I already sent the job, heard nothing, it's been proofed and I've gotten the PO - all is fine.
I'm just puzzled by this - does use of Insert effect the type of file, and alter it?

Never! Sep 1, 2009

Hi,

I cannot explain why but never save a .dot. Just close it.

As to the segment not opening, probably you were missing an end of paragraph mark, try inserting a space after the full stop. The segment should open. Another thing you could do is to select the whole faulty paragraph and copy the same fresh paragraph from the original file you kept on file in the space now empty. Translate it and you should get an impeccable memory.

Good luck!

Haydée

TOPIC STARTER
Curiosity is a trigger Sep 1, 2009

I tried to copy the missing end in several attempts, having Tags showing and carefully copying what other end-segments had - but at one point it came to where I just needed to get on with the job. Now that you also gave me a tip I will for sure try this also, if I ever come across this problem again.
Tank you very much

Still, I'm puzzled - and wonder what this might be. But, using CAT tools, I mean, where else can I ask about this? My friends have NOOO idea what I'm talking about when it comes to translating or problems of such, he he... Freelancers have no collegues to ask

Thanks again, and have a nice day on.
S
