Dear Colleagues,

Before recovering my PC, I unfortunately forgot to secure my TMs by exporting them. Instead, I only saved the following 5 files for each TM on a CD.

tmw
iix
mdf
mft
mwf

Unfortunately, I am not able to open the TMs now after having installed Trados 2006 newly.

Does anybody happen to know of a workaround?

Thanks a lot!

Kind regards
Natascha

Same Folder Oct 12, 2009

Hi Natascha,
the five files should be actually enough to open each TM. Possible problems:

1. You are trying to open the files from the CD: this means that the files are write-protected. Copy the files to your harddrive first.

2. Make sure all five files for a single TM are located in the same folder.

Sorry, no other suggestions at this point. As Radek has written, please provide any error message you receive while trying to open the TMs.

Access denied / Matrix error / TM corrupted Oct 12, 2009

thanks for the swift reply.

If I try and open one of the TMs from the work bench the following message appears:

(5): Access denied [C: .............\Technik Dt En.iix

Another one stated:

(5) Matrix Error:(null) data file C\ ............Eng Dt tmw: open

If I try and open some of the TMs by klicking onto the tmw file

It states that TM is corrupted and I should please run an export
- but unfortunately I cannot run an export, if it is not possible to open the TM via the Workbench..

Is there any chance of at least retrieving some of the data?

Kind regards,
Natascha

Error Messages Oct 12, 2009

Thanks Radek,

I had copied the files to my to the hard drive and all 5 files are in the same folder.

I have been trying to open several TMs

the most frequent messages I receive are

(5): Matrix Error: (null), data file c\ ....name of the path is stated here...then name of the TM Eng Dt tmw: open

or

(5): Access denied C...............\name of the TM Dt Eng.iix

Strangely, I have succeeded in opening two of my TMs without any problems.

Kind regards,

Natascha

PS: I have just shifted 5 TM files to another fold and received the following message:

the files are write protected, do you want to shift them..

hmmm...

1) let's check file attributes (as Stanislav mentioned) - should be "archive" only;

2) access rights - drag and drop each file into simple windows Notepad just to see if it is able to get full read/write access to the whole file;

2) what about file size, any file looks suspicious? For mature TM sizes across 5 files spread, more or less, like:

Hmmm... Oct 12, 2009

Never had any of these messages. Anyway, try to display the files' attributes and see whether these files are write-protected. They may well be because they were copied from a CD where they are write-protected by default. This would explain the "Access denied message."
Perhaps a stupid question: are you running Windows as administrator?

Problem solved with File Attributes Oct 12, 2009

Dear Radek, dear Stanislav,

You are stars. Thanks ever so much!

I have checked the file attributes and, indeed, they were write-protected.

Then I also changed the setting to "open file with Trados"

And now I can access the TMs again from the Workbench.

I've battling with this already for days.

Have a nice evening!

Natascha

I'm happy it has worked. It was just a blind shot from my side...
