Dear Colleagues,

I have received a batch of XML files to translate.

When I open a file in Tag Editor I receive the following message:

This document contains the unknown DOCTYPE declaration/root element "Content".
A tag settings file has not yet been defined for this document type.

Would you like to specify the settings file now?

Dear Colleagues,

A tag settings file has not yet been defined for this document type.

Would you like to specify the settings file now?

If I then select one of the following 3 Predefined Tag Settings for XML files:
-XLIF.ini
-DITA.ini
-or SVG.ini

I get the following message:

The DOCTYPE Declarations/root elements form the document and the currently selected tag settings file do not match. Would you like to use this file anyway?

I chose "yes"

And translated a small xml file, saved bilingual as & cleaned it..

This did not work. After clean up I don't even get an XML file.

If you have any idea, how I could get Tag Editor to handle these files, I would be ever so greatful!

Thanks a lot!

Kind regards

Natascha

PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED thanks to a kind colleague.

Just in case anybody else ever fights with the same thing:

Would you like to specify the settings file now?

YES

Select HTML4.ini

YES

And then everythink functioned fine.

INI File Oct 16, 2009

Hi Natascha,
you should ask the client to create an INI file for you which will tell TagEditor how to handle the individual tags in the XML files.
Otherwise you will have to create an INI file of your own which is not always a piece of cake.

EDIT to respond to your edit:

EDIT to respond to your edit:

This might not always be the correct solution. If you answer the "The document contains some elements that are not defined in the INI you selected" (or similar) with "YES", the results may include:
- a terrible tag soup in the TTX file
- incorrect target XML
XMLs with no proper INI file defined can be quite dangerous. Be careful.

Thanks Stanislav! Oct 17, 2009

Hi Stanislav,

Thanks ever so much for your reply.

Unfortunately, I could not get hold of the customer quickly enough so I have been working with the method I described above. For the smaller files it seems to have worked so far.

I will store your information for future projects, so that I know how to react, or in case anything goes wrong on Monday ( I hope not!).

I am sure I could not create an Ini file myself..

Have a nice weeken
