SDL Trados Studio 2009: Crash when changing input language with Ctrl+Shift

SDL Trados Studio 2009 crashes so often for any and no reason that it's hard to even categorize, but one instance is particularly problematic: Sometimes (but not always), the keyboard combination Ctrl+Shift causes the program to crash. Even after I restart the program, the problem remains. One has to reboot the computer to avoid a recurrence, but eventually, the problem returns.

Ctrl+Shift is the shortcut used to switch between keyboard input languages for those using the Language Bar function in Windows (Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages tab > Details button).

Does anyone know why this happens, how to prevent it and whether SDL plans to fix it?

Service Pack 1 Nov 3, 2009

Hello,
I am from SDL.

We just released a Service Pack (SP1).

Have you already installed it?

You will find it in your account on http://oos.sdl.com

The service pack should resolve most issues you might be experiencing.

Regards
Massi

Service pack installed Nov 3, 2009

Yes, I've already installed the Service Pack, which did indeed correct some issues (and made the auto-propagate function worse, I believe ... but that's a separate forum topic which I promise to post soon!)

But the general instability of the program -- and its reaction to Ctrl+Shift in particular -- has remained unchanged despite SP1.

My configuration:
Windows XP SP3
SDL Trados Studio 2009 9.1.0.0

Hi Michael,

I think it would be worth checking as Massi suggested. The SP1 version is actually 9.1.1107.0. Perhaps you are thinking of a cumulative patch that was released some time ago?

You can install the SP1 directly over your version 1.0.

Regards

Paul

SP1 now installed - problem not recurring so far Nov 7, 2009

Hi Massi & Paul,

Thank you for your tips. Indeed, I had installed the cumulative patch only and not Service Pack 1. I amended that and installed SP1 (9.1.1107.0) two days ago. Since then, this particular problem has not yet recurred. I'll report back on this thread if it does.

Cheers,
Michael
