G'day everyone

A client of mine regularly sends me translations to review. These translations are in uncleaned RTF format. I then use Track Changes to do the edits. When I'm done a second editor reviews my review work and either accepts or rejects the changes. After all this, the client gets a finished uncleaned RTF file, which he converts to the final translation.

Now a new translator did the translation in SDLXLIFF format (perhaps this new translator is unaware that "bilingual file" used to mean something else). So I have two questions:

1. Is there a way to convert the SDLXLIFF file to uncleaned RTF? I think not, but who knows?

2. Does Trados keep track of changes that I make in the translated SDLXLIFF file, so that the client can see what changes I made and so that a second reviewer can accept or reject my changes (and/or make further changes), that are also visible to the client? If so, please can you tell me a little more about that feature, or where I can get information about it.

Thanks
Samuel

No to both Nov 12, 2009

Hi Samuel,
I'm afraid the answer to both your questions is No. The only way to convert SDLXLIFF to bilingual RTF is exporting the TM, importing it into TWB and re-translating the RTFs. This is what I'll be doing tomorrow with 130 files.icon_smile.gif

Won't that be a problem if you have one-to-many source text segments in the files? Or is there a way to ensure in-context matching in Trados 2007 with a TM exported from Trados 2009?
