Is it possible?

If so what is the best way to do it?

I guess that it may be important that I have MS Publisher and I need to return translated file in this format.

Best Regards
Stanislaw

Personally I've never translated Publisher files in Studio, but in theory you should be able to convert a Publisher file into an RTF, translate it in Studio and then import the translated RTF back into Publisher to generate a native .pub file.

At least, according to this article, Publisher can save to RTF and open RTF.

Has somebody try this solution?

At least I wasn't successful Apr 10, 2010

I managed to save pub file as rtf, however it contained no graphic elements and I had to subsequently manually replace all text fields. So whatever I gained on translating in Studio, I lost when I had to replace the text. What I do now when translating publisher's file I open such a file in Publisher and than use option of editing each text field in Word one by one.

I don't like it too much but so far it's the best way I found.

Cheers
Stanislaw

I have seen a workaround Apr 10, 2010

With Save as Web page.

I get a HTM File (the first page in the pub document) and a folder with all the images and all the pub pages as htm. But I don't now hot to recreate the pub with this "Web page"

I tried it.

I select the text in Publisher and clic on Modify in Word.

The text open in Word.

I translate it with Trados.

And now?

If a clean it up a lost the link to Publisher.

It muss be the same linked document to go back to publisher. To translate WITHOUT Trados I don't need to go to Word, I could translate direct in Publisher. Am I missing something?

Edit:

OK, Now I get it. I have to use the Makro TW4winclean.main AND refresh the doc. then back to Publisher.

Regards

I don't use CAT for that Apr 12, 2010

I just translate in Word and close it - the new text is inserted automatically into pub file

why don't you translate direct in Publisher?

My solution is better, if you need translate some hard things where you need to respect concordance and terminology with previous documents. This PUB is 80 pages long!

Thank's!

Dear All,
Does Publisher 2010 offer any improvements regarding data exchange with CAT systems? I am interested in any information as I have to translate a big technical manual created in Publisher

Fluency May 16, 2011

Fluency supports directly translating Publisher files if MS Publisher is installed on the computer.

From Fluency User Manual May 16, 2011

It has a huge 431 MB installation file (just like Trados and Across)

http://products.westernstandard.com/Documentation.pdf

PowerPoint and Publisher files are supported via an interop library, thus can only be opened on computers with PowerPoint and/or Publisher installed. The text from the PowerPoint/Publisher file is extracted and inserted into the Source Text pane. Each text box/text frame is considered a segment and CANNOT be split or merged. Line returns included in the segment MUST BE carried over into the Target Text pane (often these are bullets list items and the omission of the line return will cause problems for inserting the segments back in correctly). For PowerPoint, each slide break is signified by –Slide Break--. In Publisher, each new page is signified by –Page Break--. At any time during the translation you can press the View PowerPoint/View Publisher button to check the formatting/context of the file in the previewer.

Maybe worth looking... Jan 12, 2016

... at this article. It's for Trados Studio but the format could be handled in any CAT that manages XML.
