I have Studio 2009 SP1 installed - with the Java version it originally came with... Now, Java informs me that there is an update available, but having had bad experience with v2007 and Java updates, I am not sure whether I should update or not. This has long been known as an issue with Trados/Multiterm which seems to work only with the version of Java that was current at the time of the original release of the corresponding version of Trados (believe it or not). However, Java updates are important, as they often fix vulnerability issues in previous version.

So, in short: Will the Java update break Studio 2009 SP1/Multiterm 8?

Your help is appreciated.

Hi Pavel,

I have already installed the Java update, with no ill effects.

If you haven't had problems in the past, you may well not have them now: but the most recent Java update broke the Trados Studio/Multiterm link for me, as described here:

http://www.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/148672-problem_with_adding_terms_to_tb_while_in_tageditor_after_installing_trados_studio.html#1313110

It's easy to fix, though (see the knowledgebase article I mention).

Java update doesn't break Studio 2009 SP1/Multiterm 8 Feb 4, 2010

Hi Pavel,

I have updated Java a couple of times since I installed Studio 2009 & Multiterm 8 and things are running smoothly so far.
