Dear all,

The client sent a reference file to me, but my TagEditor can not open it properly, and shows a pop-up like this:

This document contains the unknown DOCTYPE declaration/root element "QuestionAnswers_12982". A tag settings file has not yet been defined for this document type. Would you like to specify the settings file now?

Then if I click on YES, the following window shows up:

TAG SETTINGS MANAGER:

Letter DTD
Predefined HTML Settings
Predefined XSL Settings
ResX resource files
DITA Settings
XLIFF Settings
SVG

And none of these match the settings....

Anybody been there? Any help would be appreciated.

Best regards,
Vitaly

Install the corresponding ini sent by the customer Feb 14, 2010

Before opening file, in Tageditor go to Tools, Tag settings and open the ini file youźve got from the customer.
If you did not get any ini, create one - look for the description in File Format Reference Guide, installed along with your TRados copy (to be found in the Trados program group within Documentation).

Tried it... Feb 14, 2010

Dear Jerzy,

Tried to install the INI from the client, but...the same thing happened. The INI doesn't match the settings this files needs...

Is there any other way to open it normally?

Regards,
Vitaly

Open it regardless of missing ini Feb 14, 2010

There should be the option of opening the file anyway. The same happened to me yesterday, no ini-file. I could open the ttx though and translated it and saved to xml. But I don't know if the customer will be satisfied.
Will hear about it tomorrow.

Regards
Heinrich

Tried this one, too... Feb 14, 2010

Thank you, Heinrich.

I did try the other way, too. It opened up a file with a big mess of digits, letters and some sensible sentences and fragments in between... I don't think the file should look like this.

Probably, have to go back to my client again and ask him for help.

Regards,
Vitaly

elements tab Feb 14, 2010

open Tag Settings Manager and add the client's.ini file (click Open to locate/add it)
in Tag Settings Manager, select the client's.ini and click on Properties
open the Elements tab
on the left you'll see the 'root' column
scroll down to:
1. unselect the presently selected root
2. select QuestionAnswers_12982 as root element

backtrack carefully clicking on OK as you do so

Create the ini Feb 14, 2010

as I initially wrote - use the description in File Format Reference Guide.
It's easy.

Finally... Feb 14, 2010

Dear all:

Jerzy,
Stefan,
Heinrich,

I tried Jerzy's suggestion of creating a new INI, then finally got the original INI file from the customer and...it looked the same.

I want to thank you all for helping me learn a few nice tricks with TagEditor, I am sure they will even come in handy in the future.

Have a nice week ahead!

Best regards,
Vitalijus
