I recently lost my work, seems to happen everytime Trados is closed down by Windows (restart, batterai flat) while the file I was working on was still open. When I restart the computer and open Trados again that particular file couldn't be opened with the errror mesage: There is an error in XML document (827, 127249). Is there anybody who knows what actually happens and how I can recover the file?
Please help me, I am frustated because it has happened twice now.

Best Regards,

Emy Earp

Well, I don't know why is this happening to you. However, I have a solution for you.

Although your document is lost, your TM is not. So all you have to do is open your original document again and translate it using Translate to Fuzzy. This way you will have your doc translated just until the segment you were working on.

Also, try to give more information about your source doc format and why did your computer crash.

This may help - or maybe it will lead someone else to the answer Feb 16, 2010

An xml file can normally be opened in Notepad
It looks like this:

-
-
-
standard
- etc.

Like all html files, it has to have an opening and closing - in the case of this one, the opening is:
-
and the closing will be:
-
(note the / in the closing)

It might simply be that it is missing the closing part of your file.

So try to find the file - copy it somewhere else, just in case and using Notepad (hopefully it's not too long), try inserting the appropriate closing to your file.

If Windows Notepad is not sufficient, try downloading Notepad++

There might be another method, but if this work... good luck

Hi Angel, thanks for the quick response. I have tried your solution:

1. make a new project from the original file (MS Word)
2. Add the-TM to the project
3. Batch task - finalize (including pre-translate)

I opened the new project in Trados but nothing happened. Did I miss something?
Anyway, I am using Trados 2009 and my laptop batt flat when it happened.

Thanks again.

Emy

Try TagEditor Feb 16, 2010

Hello again.
I don't use 2009 version of Trados, but if you have TagEditor just like in older versions, you can translate your MS Word file using it. It's more reliable than other Trados tools.
Open your .doc file in TagEditor and then Translate to Fuzzy.
Can't guess any other solutions at the moment.
I hope this works.
