OK, I've had this problem before. Here is the entire error message:

Failed to save target content: Failed to write output file "NAMEOFFILE":
Unable to locate original file: C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Temp\NAMEOFFILE
Please copy this original file into the directory above and try again

The file I'm working with is a TTX (as supplied by customer) and the original file I'm trying to output is a Word doc.

Yes, I know I can simply do what the message says and copy the file into this obscure temp directory. But my point is: why should I have to? Can't SDL get to grips with this?

And while I'm grumbling, why can't they finally come up with a workaround for the bilingual word files? I've read the discussions, which often seem to turn into a battle between technophobes and technofreaks. But the fact is, I am often supplied with these bilingual files for editing and there's no easy way to get them into Trados 2009. Trados 2009 can't open them and Tageditor can't open them either.

the problem is that Studio considers TTX to be the original file. You will get a similar message if you try to clean up a TTX file created on a different machine.

While creating a TTX from the original document (say DOC), the original document location is written in the TTX header. TagEditor (and Studio) then refer to that location as they both need the original document to create the translated version. Using Studio will not help you generate the target DOC if you don't have the original document, as the DOC location was embedded in the TTX header one step earlier.
