When I tried to change the standard settings of the QA Checker in Studio and in particular to play with its RegEx feature (available in SP2), I discovered that Studio does not actually use the changed settings. The QA check runs all right but with the default settings. No matter how and what I change, the result is always the same. Studio does remember all new settings (all checkboxes are in their ‘right’ status, they are not reset to defaults), but does not use them during the QA check.

I tried it on two different PCs to the same effect. I use SP2 on both PCs and it seems that there was no such a problem before (prior to SP2), although I am not sure now.

Did anybody encounter a similar problem or is it just me? Any suggestions?

Best regards,
Andrei

Changing global settings for an existing project? Apr 10, 2010

If you do experiment with an existing project, no changes from Tools - Options (global settings) will take effect. What you certainly need is to change the settings and create a completely new project or to go and change those settings in the project itself.
However, if you've already done that, I have no idea why it does not work.

You are right, Jerzy Apr 11, 2010

I tried to tweak global settings and expected them to work on an existing project. Thanks a lot!
I bit weird logic on SDL's side to my thinking. I guess they meant global settings to work as a template for creating new projects. It would be much more convenient if they allowed saving and loading custom QA profiles (this would allow sharing them as well).

There is one hiccup though. I selected to exclude locked segments from the QA check, but it still reports "Tag added" error for such segments. Other errors for locked segments are not reported. Probably SDL thinks that the added tags are so critical that they can't ignore it even if expressly instructed to do so. In my case it was the customer who locked the segments and so I don't want to waste time reviewing these errors. When I check the "Exclude locked segments" (and "Exclude Perfect Match units"), I would prefer them to be excluded from all checks, no matter how critical they are.

Thanks again, Jerzy!

Andrei

Hi,
Tag verification doesn't happen in the QA checker but you can set it in each file type separately.

Tags in locked segments Apr 13, 2010

Thank you PMz,

And where can I set tag verification for each file type? There is no such thing under Options\File Types.
Besides, I don't want to disable tag verification as such, but I do want Studio not to check tags in the segments locked by the customer. Is that possible?

Kind regards,
Andrei

Where to find Tag verification Apr 13, 2010

Hi Andrei,

I think if you look a little deeper you will see this. Each filetype as an option for Tag verification settings and in these options you will see a checkbox called "Ignore Locked Segments".

For example, using the excel filetype to show this;

I hope this helps?

Regards

Paul

Thanks a lot, Paul! Apr 13, 2010

You saved my day again. Maybe it would make sense to move tag verification somewhat closer to QA?

Best regards,
Andrei
