Hi Guys,

I am unable to open any excel files in tageditor - I am getting an error message regarding the file parser - the exact message is:

"Failed to create file parser Trados.ExcelFileParser2" and then on Ok "(80005): Failed to create parser for plugin file format!"

I am running SDL Trados 2007 on Windows XP with Office XP (2002).

I've trawled the forums and checked the TagEditor plugin verifier chapter in the SDL manual and still no solution as yet.

Any suggestions?

Huw

I never heard about this file parser... May 11, 2010

Did you pretranslate the XLS file to receive a bilingual .txt file before you tried to open it under TagEditor?

No I didn't. I simply tried to open the .xls file in two ways:

1) Right clicking on the excel file and choosing 'open with'
2) Opening TagEditor first and then I attempted to open the file.

In the past, this is how I have always obtained a bilingual ttx file using TagEditor.

I have not tried creating a project in Synergy - perhaps that may help?

How does the pretranslation and creation of a bilingual txt file affect things?

You can try to pretranslate the file using workbench (Tools>Translate). You should obtain a txt file that you can open with TagEditor. That's how I use to proceed. But I don't know if this will resolve your problem.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion but... May 11, 2010

...I got the same error message - failed to create the parser file.

The annoying thing is that it works perfectly on my laptop with exactly the same OS, Version of Office and Trados.

I'm hoping that someone has had this problem and knows how it can be solved.
