I bought Trados Studio for just one computer a few months ago and I am curious about how to transfer my license when I need to change my computer.

Thank you in advance,

Argee01

Return your licence ... May 19, 2010

... and then download the application from the SDL website onto your new computer and activate the licence again.

This simple step will avoid all the headaches reported in many posts here.icon_smile.gif

Returning your licence May 19, 2010

Hello,

I was wondering the same, since I'm thinking of buying a new computer soon.

Do you by any chance know how to return a Trados licence (actually an "activation code")?

Thanks a lot.

Ana

How to return the licence May 19, 2010

Actually, I asked the same thing before for another problem and I saved the information that someone in this forum gave me. Here it goes:

In the Workbench menu:

HELP>ABOUT>LICENSE MANAGER>VIEW ACTIVATED LICENSES>Select the license number>RETURN LICENSE

This from above works, and I deduct the rest:

Uninstall from your old computer and install it again in the new one.

I hope it helps,

Argee01

Return ALL your licences May 19, 2010

Make sure you return ALL your licences. You have separate ones for Studio, Trados 2007, Multiterm, possibly autosuggest...
Don't just return the one for 2007, because otherwise you won't be able to reactivate Studio when you need to.
(for Studio, go to Help>About>License Manager...)

Hypothetical scenario May 20, 2010

I was just wondering, in the unfortunate event that your existing computer "dies" before you get a new one, whether anyone can advise how you would be able to reactivate your licence on your new computer?

Just like Paul May 20, 2010

I wonder the same thing. Because I have no way of knowing if or when my computer is going to crash. What then? Do we have to buy a new license?

What to do in an emergency May 20, 2010

Hi Paul and Alina,

If your computer dies before you were able to return your license then if you have a support contract you can send a request to Support and they will reactivate it for you.

If you don't have a support contract then you can use the solution finder like this;

http://talisma.sdl.com

Then go to the tab called Solution Finder and now go here;

Licensing Problems
- My software runs in demo mode only, or Activation/Licensing does not work.
- - Activation Code
- - - I cannot return my activation code.
- - - - I get an error message when I click on Return License.

This will bring up a form that you can fill in to generate a support request and you will be contacted, normally within a day.

I hope this helps.

Regards

Paul
