In here, you set the tag type as Inline and Always Translatable. Then you can for example make a Bold command show as a placeable and still render the translatable text in bold. From: Paul Filkin [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 2. juni 2010 15:34 To: Jon Hedemann Subject: RE: [Error thrown by a dependency of object 'Generator' defined in 'transformed file [*filename*.sdlfile]] on Proz.com Hi Jon, The problem with ini files is that people generally don’t maintain them properly in addition to them carrying over inherent bugs from older versions of the software, although you can use them. I think what you could do is create a new filetype with the xml file as I explained, remove all the imported parser rules and then import the ini file. This would probably work too. But personally I like the XPATH approach as it is more clear and more powerful. I’m glad that everything works but please make sure that I have all the text covered with the new rules. I only spent 5/10 minutes on it so I could easily have missed something, although it looked similar to the default xml output so I think I got most of it. Anyway, changing the styles in the editor…. indeed, I just wanted to show you what could be done, but thankfully it’s a piece of cake to change First of all select the rule you want to edit. I’ll use the ROW entries as you don’t like this one, and then click on Edit; Then click on Edit again in the next window; … and finally click on Edit yet again in the next; In here you have two more Edit options… I didn’t realise it was so many until I wrote this The top one is the colour used to display the Document Structure Information in the Editor here. Also note that when you click these in the Editor you will see the information you are looking at in these Edit screens now; The bottom one changes the text that is displayed in the Editor itself. You can get rid of the italics by changing the Italic to Inherit like this; I wouldn’t Deactivate as this has a specific function, whereas the inherit just means it will use whatever the underlying format is. In this case just plain text. All these changes only affect how the file looks in the Editor to make it easier for the translator. The final document will be based on whatever the original source document says it should be. On the filetype identifier. You need to do this during the filetype creation process. After that it will be greyed out. It’s worth remembering what it does though as it can be very useful when you have multiple customised xml files and need to be sure the correct one is being used. Otherwise all of them will say they are a copy of the default XML which is not too helpful. Where the filetype s placed is not an issue, but if I was you I would put in the Filetypes folder and then you always have them in the same place. You should remove it from the list in Studio and then add it again from the correct location. Kind regards Paul PS: The XML capability in Studio is really an excellent feature. It can even handle embedded HTML. So if you get a chance it would be great if you could close your post in ProZ to say you are sorted. I really would like people to start to see this about XML, and also see how easy it is to use, and it’s much better coming from you than me. For some reason nobody believes SDL when we tell them From: Jon Hedemann [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 02 June 2010 3:08 PM To: Paul Filkin Subject: RE: [Error thrown by a dependency of object 'Generator' defined in 'transformed file [*filename*.sdlfile]] on Proz.com Hi Paul, The error happens when trying to Finalize the file (including Verification and Save as Target). Please have a look at the translated file. Hope this can clarify the error further. The new file type that I created, was based on an .ini file that I originally used with Trados 2007. In any case, the file type settings that you created for me seems to have done wonders for the Finalization step. Everything now works! I am, however, not crazy about the italic formatting of the ROW entries, since it sometimes makes the text difficult to read. How do I change this? About file detection: Originally, I couldn’t get Trados Studio to recognize this file type with the setting you’re recommending, but when it moved ‘manual’ to DOCTYPE, the file type was recognized as intended. I cannot change the file type identifier. It says “Copy of XML v 1.1.0.0”. The settings file is placed under C:\Users\Jon\Documents\SDL Trados Studio\Projects\. Is it an issue that it’s not placed under C:\Users\Jon\Documents\SDL Trados Studio\File Types\?? THANK YOU! THIS IS A GREAT HELP! From: Paul Filkin [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 2. juni 2010 11:13 To: Jon Hedemann Subject: RE: [Error thrown by a dependency of object 'Generator' defined in 'transformed file [*filename*.sdlfile]] on Proz.com Thanks Jon, To be honest I had no problem using your xml so I’m not sure why you get this error or what it is. I did wonder whether your file identifier was incorrect as I used it in the root element section and not the DOCTYPE declaration which is incorrect. This means you may have been using the default XML filter and not the one you created. However, I could also open the file with the default so I’m really not sure what is happening. Possibly you need to copy over the filetypes from the installation folder and refresh them, just in case you have messed around with them and broken something (sorry, but it’s always possible so I need to ask). A good tip is to use the TagID icon to help you make sure you are using the right filetype after you open the document; Then, as long as you have edited this box; Then the name will appear here; However, I thought I would also just quickly show you another way to do this using XPATH and have also attached the filetype I created. Maybe this one will run for you? 1. Import your xml as part of a new filetype creation, as you did. This gets you all the parser rules and the filetype recognition easily 2. Delete all the parser rules and start from scratch – you can use them but I find this way to work easier 3. Add a new rule as an xpath expression - //* and make it non translatable a. This rule stays at the bottom and ensures that when you open the file nothing is parsed apart from what you really want 4. Now add the things you want as Always translatable 5. Then, if you want to prettify the look, you can add whatever else you need and apply formatting as I did for some of the fields. I only did these; 6. Now when I open your file I see this sort of thing that helps me to see the start of new sections, whether text is inside a table etc. 7. If you had a stylesheet you could also add this and then you would also be able to preview the document as well. I hope this is useful for you anyway. maybe if you get time (assuming this works for you and you find it a useful feature?) you could also post back into the forums and just close off your post? We are working on enhancing the help guides for this with better explanations and these will be in the online help as soon as we do the next revision. First of all, I forgot to add the version of Trados I was using : it's Trados Studio 2009 SP2 (9.1.1264.0). I seem to have solved the problem (at least for the time being..).
