Hello,

I am hoping someone has an idea about how to help.... :-/

I am having a "classic" situation:
I have an urgent delivery (tomorrow morning, technically) of a large volume project, and I had some issues with Trados (2007)/TagEditor all afternoon, jeopardizing the timely delivery of the project. :*-(

Sometimes, TagEdior just freezes and stops responding. In that case, I just restart the software and it does the trick... Now, I can't even open TagEditor properly. Here is what I am experiencing:

--I click to open TagEditor (WorkBench is already open). It technically opens, because I see a "quick tip" message (as always) suggesting different shotcuts I can use for functions, etc.
--I close the "quick tips" box (as I always do) and then normally, I see the TagEditor window behind it, but now... nothing!
--Now, the thing is that on my toolbar at the bottom of my screen, I see that TagEditor is there, but when I try to maximize it, it doesn't work.
--I tried to: restart Trados many times, restart my computer many times, use the WindowsTaskManager to open the window that way... BUT no success!

I am now out of solutions and I can't even check if I lost any work along the way...icon_frown.gif
Does this sound familiar to anyone at all, by chance?

Thank you,

Anne-Sophie

Reinstall? Jun 10, 2010

Did you try to Reinstall trados?

Many Trados problems get fixed by re-registering the software. In fact, Trados includes a batch file for that, which is usually called "Selfregister.bat". In your main hard disk (usually C:) and Program files, look for Trados' setup folder and in one of its subfolders you will find the Selfregister.bat file. Double-click it. A command-line window opens for a while and then it disappears. If you are curious about the progress of this process, you can instead run the "Selfregister_not_silent.bat" file, which opens the command-line window and shows the results of what it is doing.

If re-registering does not solve the problem, I'd reinstall Trados again (you don't need to remove the previous installation, I think).

In a way I am happy that I no longer depend on Trados for my main work (we switched to MemoQ about a year ago and are very happy that we escaped from Trados' many multifaceted problems).

I hope this helps! Good luck!

Out of the screen... Jun 10, 2010

Tomás, don't speak as the SDL support icon_smile.gif
Generally, a quick reinstallation may mess up more things than it may fix.

Many Trados problems get fixed by re-registering the software.

It may work in many cases but probably this time the solution is different.

It seems your TagEdidor opens correctly... out of the screen icon_smile.gif
You detached or moved a second moniter recently?

If yes, you must attach it or follow the procedure:
1. Open the Windows registry editor (regedit)
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Trados\TagEditor\Settings
3. Delete the "Top", "Bottom", "Left" and "Right" entries from the right pane.
4. Close the registry editor.
TagEditor will use the default settings.

In a way I am happy that I no longer depend on Trados for my main work (we switched to MemoQ about a year ago and are very happy that we escaped from Trados' many multifaceted problems).

Nothing more to say icon_smile.gif

Cheers

There is a simpler method:

1. Right-click on the TagEditor icon in the toolbar and select "move".

2. Use arrow keys to bring the window into view (i.e. if you "lost" your window on the right, use left arrow to bring it to the monitor).

Hello!
THANK YOU to the three of you for your advice. Much much appreciated.

-->TOMAS: I couldn't find the file ""Selfregister.bat" on my computer... strange!?

-->GRZEGORZ & JABBERWOCK: I did not detach or move an other/new monitor.... I only have a laptop and I didn't do anything different than usual. SO, should I still try the procedure you provided??

I am thinking to indeed reinstall Trados all together.... is ther anything else I should try before?

Any quick thoughts?

Merci!
Anne-Sophie

Strange indeed Jun 10, 2010

The lack of the selfregister file is strange indeed. In the normal setup of Trados 2007, it should be in folder:
C:/Program Files/SDL International/T2007/TT

Can you check again?

I can not click on "move" from the toolbar icon because it is frozen/light grey. I can only choose "maximize", "restore" or "close"....

Try "maximize" - it is possible that if the TE window is responding, it should fill your screen. If not, then it means that the problem goes farther than that.

Maybe solution? Jun 10, 2010

Hi Anne Sophie

First quit the process of TagEditor in your Task Manager.

To resolve this issue please go to:
1. START --> Run...
2. Type " regedit " in the box and confirm by clicking "ok"
3. The registration Editor will open.
4. Now goto in the registry key:
HKEY_Current user --> software --> trados --> Tageditor
and rename the folder (for example "_TagEditor")
5. Close now the registration editor
6. Start TagEditor

Now it should work again.

Regarding the selfregister.bat you should find it in the default installation folder C:\Program Files\SDL International\T2007\TT\SelfRegister.bat

This folder must exist since SDL Trados Synergy builds on it and ist just an additional component of SDL Trados 2007.

Cheers

Thanks xxxOptiproz Pri!

Any idea how that error happened though?
