Hi All,

Sorry to disturb you, but I have looked for other topics and did not find anything relevant.

I've received a file in notepad and have to translate it with Tageditor. I don't know why I can not edit the text between tags. It is simply not editable and almost all the relevant functions are not active.

I'd appreciate any idea of how to make my Tageditor working normally.

Thank you for helping!

Veronica

Hi, Jerzy,
Thank you for your reply.

The file is a .txt document. As about filters, I don't know what to answer. I simply opened the workbench, launched Tageditor and opened the file, as I usually do.

Does this help?

Thank you again

Got no error message? Jul 8, 2010

You should need to know the source of the txt file. Ask your customer for details - it is imposible to diagnose the error with so little information.
TXT files are NOT standard translatable files, as they do no have a structure, which could be predicted, like html or Word or othe files. TXT can contain particuarly everything

I will try to find out the source and maybe I will come back if I don't solve the problem in the meanwhile.

Have a nice evening!

Look at the file header Jul 8, 2010

Quite often it can tell you, what was the source.
Otherwise you will need to prepare the file most probably in Word.

Txt Jul 8, 2010

The source of the problem most probably is that one of Trados custom filters is defined with txt extension (as txt files are directly supported by TagEditor).

Going the Word route will be certainly the easiest:

1. Open the file in Word and save as doc
2. Translate with TE and export the target document.
3. Open the target doc in Word and save as txt.

word 2007 Jul 8, 2010

Now I have the same in word 2007 (docx), as received from client.

I've opened the document in Tageditor and it didn't work. The file opens normally, but the text is not editable. Then I saved it as .ttx, but still no changes

Should I try to reinstall Trados?

Use Tools - Options Aug 4, 2010

Hi All,

I know it is too late to answer, but I just saw this question.

You can click on Tools on the main menu bar, scroll down and select options. Then select PROTECTION Tab, go to Document Protection on the lower part of the window, and deselect "Protect Document"and then OK. Go back to your file and edit whatever you want.

And Have a great time.

A.Jalil

Thanks et au contraire Oct 5, 2010

Super answer A.Jahil. It was driving me nuts not knowing why I could edit text between tags when using my PC but not when using my laptop.

But only one thing I would disagree with you about is.. ..it's never too late to answer!!
