Doubt about "clean" and "unclean" files

Hi all,

I use Trados Studio 2009, and although it fits my needs, I am no expert on SDL.

A client requests "clean" and "unclean" files for a determinate project.

What I sent to them was:

The target translation (which to me seems the "clean" file)

What I suppose could be the "unclean file", that I got by doing this:
Project > Batch Tasks > Custom > Export File
And then, on the box "file version to export", I chose "latest bilingual version".

Could that be the "uncleaned" file or have I done something wrong here?

Thanks for any helpicon_smile.gif

What the client probably means when he says "uncleaned" is the SDLXLIFF file. Some clients use the word "uncleaned" for "bilingual".

Well, if you are correct about what he wants, than I guess I did the right thing.

Yes, he is correct Jul 12, 2010

Clients use various terms, but:
Uncleaned = unclean = bilingual
Cleaned = clean = monolingual = target

So what if a client wants "unclean" files in Studio 2009? Jul 13, 2010

I'm following this thread because I have a client who's aware I'm using Trados Studio 2009 and is requesting I deliver "unclean Word files" rather than SDLXIFF files. Is this even possible?

TIA - this is rather urgent...

Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,
perhaps you can find the needed explanation in this thread:

Thanks Liselotte Jul 13, 2010

I did find some useful instructions - the only problem is that they didn't work for me in Trados 2007.

So I'm asking my client if I can just use 2007 for them from now on since they don't seem to be ready for 2009 and their deadlines are too tight for me to be conducting further experiments.

Best,
Stephanie
