Convert older TM's to Studio 2009 problems

Hi!

I've been reading a lot about possibilities and impossibilities of converting older Trados/SDL TM-files to Studio 2009 freelance, but I'm still stuck. Apparently my client only has 2007 compatible files (.iix, .mdf, .mtf, .mwf and .tmw) but my downloaded Studio 2009 does not want to import or convert to a usable format.

Since the 2007 suite is no longer available on the internet, how do I go about getting those files to work?

Any good advice is welcome!

Thanks in advance,

Joost

2007 IS available Jul 13, 2010

Hello Joost,
you can download T2007 from within your profile on translationzone.com. Install it and you will be able to upgrade your TMs from v. 2007 to v. 2009.

Can't find any versions before 2009 Jul 13, 2010

Thanks, have looked into that, but can't seem to work out where exactly they store older releases of their software... Could you tell me where I might find the 2007 version once I'm logged on?

It's in the Downloads section of your account. It looks like this:

And to add to Marinus' post, you should download SDL Trados 2007 Suite Freelance.

You may also convert from TMX format Jul 14, 2010

Joost

The files you have received are the physical 2007 files and these are not suited for conversion.

Your client should give you export files from his 2007 TM, in TMX format.

You can then create an empty 2009 TM in Studio and import these TMX files.

With this approach, you don't need to install the 2007 version at all.

studio starter? Jul 14, 2010

If you are using the Studio Starter edition, you don't have the Trados 2007 bundled with it, so that may be why you can't find it in your User Account.
http://www.translationzone.com/en/products/sdl-trados-studio-2009-starter/

To use the legacy TM that you have been sent, open Studio, and follow the "upgrade translation memory" wizard from the home page. You can import .tmw (which you have), .txt or .tmx formats.

HTH

Edit: I've just re-read the Studio Starter features and I'm sorry to say that not only does it not come bundled with 2007, but you can't ugrade TMs with it either. I suppose there must be some drawbacks for the price. So if that's the version you're using, this is not good news for you.icon_frown.gif

Thanks all Jul 14, 2010

... I finally came across a 2007 edition SDLX release and was able to convert my files to sdltm. Apparently all other translators on the team work with 2007 and do not have 2009 yet, so the client didn't think it necessary to provide 2009 compatible files.

But with your help, no more problemicon_smile.gif
