I need to buy Trados Studio 2009 and I use Office 2000. Are these two compatible? If not is Studo 2009 compatible with Office 2003?

Of course, T2009 reads O2000 files but I doubt it will work with O2000 itself.
It was intended only for O2003 and O2007 (e.g. only the 2003 and 2007 Interop assemblies are shipped with T2009).
I'm sure it was not tested with O2000 and it's not supported.

I suppose at least some features will not work out of the box.
IMO a newer Office version is a must or some modding is necessary.

gap between MSW 2000 and 2002 Aug 11, 2010

In my experience, nearly all macros are interchangeable between MS Word versions 2002 (aka "XP") and 2003, but I have found many more discrpeancies between 2000 and 2002 versions. On the other hand, Trados macros just might work OK in Word 2000, who knows? If you really love Word 2000, try and see.

But, IMHO, Word 2002 and 2003 versions are considerably better than 2000 (especially with respect to stability and rescue facilities in case something goes wrong); so the upgrade from Word 2000 to Word 2003 is a good one.
