I'm just starting to use Trados but have already translated 4000 words of the document, is there any way of copying and pasting it into the new project or do I have to start all over?

Which version of Trados are you going to use? Aug 12, 2010

Dag Nienke

As you did not specify which version of Trados (2007 or Studio 2009) you intend to use, I cannot give you exact directions as to how you should proceed.

In which form do you have the currently translated text?

One thing you could do is align the two documents, but that would only be worth doing if you are already familiar with the alignment tool.

If you use Studio, you can obviously open the source document in Studio and copy/paste the already translated text from your (presumably Word) document into the target segment. You would however need to do this for each segment, but it will still be faster than retype everything.

Good luck.

If you used Trados, the text is in TM Aug 12, 2010

If your Trados was Studio, you can integrate the translated text in a new project.
However, if you text was translated CATs-free (ie. just in Word), then you will need to follow Walter's advice and use an align software for this.

... if it is a pre-CAT translation and now you have Studio 2009 only, you can use the direct conversion process described at
