Hello everybody !

I recently bought Trados 2009 as it seems to be a very useful tool and most jobs now require to have it. However, I have difficulties to start working with it. The most simple task can become a nightmare which is why I would like to ask a couple of questions:

- What is the difference between Trados, SDL, SDLX, Workbench, Tag Editor, Passolo ??
When I look for tutorials, I always end up with different terms. In the end, I am not even sure that I am working with the right tool.

- What do you use Trados for ?
Before, I thought I would load a file within Trados (word document) and translate it using a Translation memory and done ! But it seems that you can do one million things with it. Project managers seem to expect us to be able to do a lot of things. What are the common tasks a translator should be able to undertake ?

- Where can I find decent tutorials in order to get started with Trados ?
At the moment, I would just like to be able to use the most important tools:
- Create a translation memory and use it.
- Import/Export TM.
- Where do I find my translated document in its original format ?

Thank you very much for your help !

Take some training Aug 17, 2010

You can have it here on ProZ.
You can get it from me, if you wish.
Or ask someone to give you onsite courses.
There is also training offered by SDL.
Unfortunately it is not possible to teach you through the forum - what you request goes in my opinion far beyound the voluntary help of colleagues you may expect here.

Best regards
Jerzy
