Hello!

Thanks in advance. I am trying to figure out how to update my master TM with new words and segments that I translated from a new project. I am using Trados 2007.
I heard that your TM gets updated when you do a clean up, but I am trying to figure where I go to select which TMs you would like to update.

I appreciate it!

Only the opened Translation Memory is updated Aug 20, 2010

In T2007 you can update JUST ONE TM at time. It is always the TM opened in Workbench.

Thank you Jerzy & Hubert Aug 20, 2010

Hello Jerzy & Hubert!

Thank you very much! I didn't know you could only update one TM at a time.
Does that mean you cannot open more than one TM at a time to do a translation?

Thanks!

2007 uses one TM, Studio can use several TMs Aug 21, 2010

In 2007, you can open a maximum of two TMs, but only one of them can be updated. The second (optional) one is a reference TM, which is opened in read-only mode and therefore only used for concordance searches.

In Studio 2009 however, you can open as many TMs as you want and you can specify for each one whether it is updated or only used for lookup/concordance. You may also apply match rate penalties in order to distinguish matches from several TMs.

Indeed. You can open one memory as the one you are working on and updating, plus one memory as a reference, but this is only used to reuse translations from it. It does not get updated.

You can select the memory in (in the Workbench) Tools > Translation Memory Options > Concordance tab > click Browse to select a reference memory for the "Reference (read-only) translation memory" box.

Use of filters Aug 21, 2010

If you want to update certain parts of your TM, set the TM filters in WorkBench and export the parts required to another TM. Then, update it into a tiny and efficient TM for future use etc.

Best regards,
Soonthon Lupkitaro

Thank you everyone Aug 21, 2010

Thanks Walter, Tomas, Soonthon!

I appreciate the information. I do have T2009, so I guess I will just switch on over to T2009, as it seems much easier to use.

Thanks!
