Hi John,
Start with "Trados for Idiots, by an Idiot" by Life Jensen. It can be downloaded for free here: http://www.danishtranslator.net/

It's a very simple and user-friendly tutorial that makes it clear how Trados works.

Another excellent tutorial by Jerzy Czopik used to be freely available for download online. I can email it to you.

This should get you up and running in a few hours or so.
