Hi guys,

I have three similar Word documents to translate, and because there are some pictures & tables in it, I would like to do this in Trados 7. I created a new project in Synergy, but to my surprise something went wrong apparently on converting the .docs to .ttx.

When I open them in Tag Editor, every letter has become a segment, which makes the document look somewhat like this and renders it untranslatable:

xxmxxaxxcxxhxxixxnxxexxsxx

Does anyone know why this has happened, and most of all, what I can do to change it back to normal?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Kind regards,
Ingeborg

Word Art ? Sep 8, 2010

One possible reason is that your Word file was actually done in Word Art. Then the text is held in tiny boxes of one or more characters.

AFAIK, there is no easy solution. One I have used several times is to print the file to PDF, then convert the PDF into an editable Word file. Easier said than done.

Perhaps scanned doc? Sep 8, 2010

You could try CodeZapper by David Turner

If there are still too much tags I would translate in Word either using Wordfast or Trados. In Word you see only the text, no code

To join segments Sep 8, 2010

If you can join or expand segments of TTX, your trouble can be solved. Can you?

Thanks a lot for your help Sep 9, 2010

It appears that Peter was right, the documents were made in Word Art. This left me no choice but to translate them all "manually", which was quite a challenge considering all the DTP it involved. But I managed, eventually...

Thank you all for your suggestions!

Ingeborg
