Hi there,

I just tried to open a Word (97) Document including a certain number of pictures in TagEditor (Trados8). I got the message "OLE/COM-Error".
Then, I tried to convert the .doc into a .rtf in Word via "saving as...". Same result.
So, does anybody know, what could be wrong with this document.

Every idea is welcome.......

Best regards. Sabine

Seems to have Sep 14, 2010

some embedded objects...

You can ask your client if there are some tables (or images) from another application in this doc, and if he could send it in the original form. Later you (or the client) could compose the doc again.

Maybe there is a workaround to translate "everything" without removing the embedded objects.

Regards

Gracias Fernando Sep 14, 2010

I once more "examinated" the text and found lots of hidden text like {XE"Wartung"}. I am sure that is the problem! Nevertheless, I could not find out how to remove that....icon_frown.gif

Can you save the text as Word 2000 or newer? Sep 14, 2010

AFAIR Word 97 is NOT supported by TagEditor 8.
If not, try to use OpenOffice as intermediate format.
What you mean with "hidden texts" are index entries and they do not make any problems.

Thanks Jerzy. Sep 14, 2010

That´s what I always try: To save the text a Word 2007 file. I know, the older versions do not work with TagEditor 8. But I even cannot do that.

But it worked to open parts of the text. So is it possibly too big? It´s 111 pages with a lot of pictures in it. Normally, that kind of text does work pretty well.....

You can't save Word 2007? Sep 14, 2010

Try to repair the file.
Do not open the file via double click.
In Word chose Open file dialog. navigate to file. Select it and chose "Open and repair" instead of plain "Open". Word will find and report errors. Save the repaired file in at least Word 2003 format.
Try again.
Problem can arise from damaged tables, text fields or too complicated headers/footers.
