Trados Studio 2009 - Java issue?

It's clearly not my day, I'm still getting the

"Translation failed:There was a communications protocol error not a valid sequence for the language pair "italian/english"".

message (see earlier post). But now I can't view the translated file in MS Word either. When I try to do this via File-View In-MS Word as Target (which is what I usually do) I get the message

"Error while converting to Word Document"

This developed about an hour ago.

The only thing I can think of is that this morning I okayed a Java update. Having looked at this forum I see that Java has caused problems with Trados, but not these specific problems, so I don't know if it's related.

Please can someone shed some light on this - before I throw the computer out of the window!

Do all the problems persist after restarting Studio/computer? Sep 23, 2010

As for the Java problems - not necessarilly the update will be a problem, but it can be.
The error while converting to Word document can be caused by some missing tags.
Please verify your translation with the QA checker.

That's great and has solved the Word issue, but not the:

"Translation failed:There was a communications protocol error not a valid sequence for the language pair "italian/english"".

Do you have any suggestions to sort that out?

Yes, today I've tried with 5 or 6 different documents (all originally Word) and I've had the same message every time.

I was hoping in a miracle overnight, but I've still got the same problem this morning.

Please try to do a repair installation of Studio Sep 24, 2010

I do not really know what happened, so please try to do a repair installation of Studio via Control panel.

When I go to do this there is only the Remove option.

Should I totally uninstall and reinstall?

Thanks again for your help, but unfortunately it made no difference.

I have invested in the Trados support package, I hope they can help me out in the next few days.

In the meantime I'm back to the old, pre-Trados method for the weekend.
