G'day everyone

I have an Excel 2007 file that I want to translate in Trados 2009. Some of the contents is not displayed in Trados at all. These cells are usually formula cells with text content. For example:

One cell contains this text visibly:

Tax for the year ended 28 February 2009

but in the cell itself, you find this:

="Tax for the year ended "& PROPER(TEXT(YearEndDate, "d mmmm yyyy"))

and a search for "Tax for the year ended" in Trados yields no results. This means that this text will not be translated in the Excel file when I'm done with my translation in Trados.

In another cell, the visible text is:

Annual Financial Statements

but the cell itself contains this:

=IF(Cons=1,"Consolidated ","")&IF(AccPeriod=12, "Annual Financial", "Financial")&" Statements"

and again, I can't find "Annual Financial Statements" in the file in Trados. Obviously this must be translated, either as a formula intact or as text content (overwriting the formula, in other words).

Can Trados do this?

If you want to get rid of the formulae Sep 29, 2010

If you want to get rid of the formulae and just translate their results as plain text.

Select everything in the sheet (Ctrl + A)

Copy (Crtl + C)

Then go to Paste Special (in 2007 it's in the Home ribbon on the left hand side under the Paste drop down menu).

Select "Values" and click ok.

The text shown in the cells will now just be plain text and will run normally through Trados.

Should make things rather simpler - I don't know if it's possible to translate underlying formulae and unless they need to use this Excel sheet with all its functions in tact in the target language, I'd say it's not necessary to do so.
