How to swap source languages in an existing TM?
Thread poster: gamigo

Dear proz-users!

We have an already existing TM for the language pair German > Spanish. Is it somehow possible to swap the source language in that specific TM to, let's say, English, so that we get an English > Spanish TM? Is there any other solution than WinAlign? This is simply too time consuming when each and every source and target segment needs to be checked…Is there a more ‘automatic’ approach for this?

Thanks in advance (-:

The solution depends on the format in which you want to do it. So, what exact software, version, and TM format are you speaking about?

Trados 2007 Oct 14, 2010

Hello,

we are using Trados 2007 and 2009. Source file format for the already translated files is XML, TM can be either exported as txt, or the different tmx-formats.

Hope this helps.

In TMX, you can swap source and target using Olifant freeware, http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/okapi/Olifant-R00022.zip?download
which may be a bit easier than processing the txt export. You can tweak the latter in any Notepad-like txt editor.

you should try using Oliphant. Export at least as tmx 1.1. If it's not working, drop me a line. I had a pretty much similar problem and it work for me.

Swapping source and target? Oct 15, 2010

Thanks for you reply.

Hm, you only mean that it is possible to swap source and target? Isn't it somehow possible to replace an existing source language with another source language?

Thanks (-:

You have, say, German/Spanish nad German/English TMs and want to merge them into a Spanish/English one? Or what do you mean by "swapping" here?
