Hi,
Just installed SDL 2007, SDL 2009 SP2 and SDL SP3 all in one shot.
I am not getting very much out of this deal - perhaps u bug in overlapping
installations.
Anyhow, my Tageditor gives me the following error when I try to open
a .docx or .doc flle:

Error 80005 "the file could not be opened because it is not a Microsoft Office Word 2007 format"

What is this telling me?

How can I get around this problem?

I have read that it may be solved by transforming the file into an .rft and then back to a .doc
but won't that cause formatting issues in fonts and layout?

I'd like a quicker approach that having to take a three-step crack at using Tageditor.
Any kind Samaritan willing to lend me a hand here.
My gratitude.

Hello Jerzy and thanks for the interest.
Yes, it opens in Word 2007 without any problem whatsoever.
I just can't understand what is the matter here.
Open to all suggestions and indications.

TIA !!

Was it created via an OCR software? Oct 20, 2010

I'm often having this problem when my Word documents are created by ABBYY Fine Reader. I have to open them in Word and re-save them to make sure it is really a Word (2003 or 2007) document.

Sorry no idea Oct 20, 2010

Maybe you try to look for the error number (80005) at talisma.sdl.com

rtf? Oct 20, 2010

Some programs create rtf files but give them a doc extension. It is most often the reason. Check on it.

May have been created with OCR Oct 21, 2010

I heard from the client that this file was read with an OCR program.
This may well be the issue as many of you have suggested.
However, what to do in these cases?
I'd like to work these files with TagEditor and it bugs me that I can't.
Thanks a lot!

Save as dox or rtf Oct 21, 2010

Just open the file in Word and save it as doc(x) or rtf.

Trados should recognise it.

It may be worthwhile cleaning up random hard line breaks and the like while you're about it.

I already asked if it is really a Word 2007 file Oct 21, 2010

Unfortunately I was not precise enough: when you open in Word and try to "Save as", do you have rtf as format? Most certainly yes, as all OCR software I know does save with the extension doc(x), but in rtf format.
Just save as proper Word.

Filter update Oct 21, 2010

Hi all

Could it be that the Word document was created in Word 2010?

This should be solved after following the steps to apply the new "Cumulative File Format Filter Update for SDL Trados 2007 Suite" that can be found here:
http://kb.sdl.com/article.aspx?article=3368&p=1

Regards
Richard

Document type Oct 22, 2010

hi, are you sure that the document type was created by Word 2007 or higher? otherwise, you may have to save it again in Word 2007 to fix this issue. good luck.
