Is there any way to force Studio to segment source texts after soft line breaks (in addition to hard returns, full stops, colons, etc.)?

I know how to do this manually, one segment at a time. But I am currently working on a document with a lot of soft line breaks and it would be useful to automate the process. To be honest, I can't think of any good reason why soft line breaks should be treated differently to hard ones (I'm sure someone will come up with one). I can't reformat the source document as a) it would take ages and b) the customer probably wants it back how he sent it.

Any ideas? Any feedback would, as ever, be much appreciated.

global replace manual line break with paragraph mark Dec 9, 2010

If it is a word document. There probably is a better way, and hopefully someone will come up with it. If not, you can always make an extra working copy of the source and use the global replace function more>special>replace manual line breaks with paragraph marks (I think). You definitely want a working copy, though, in case it screws up any formatting.

“global replace function more>special>replace”

I haven't got a clue what you are talking about with this. Which software has these options? I haven't got them in Word or Trados Studio.

Either way, the point is: replacing soft line breaks in the Word document with paragraph marks generally does tend to muck up the formatting. Especially in texts like mine with lots of indented text.

I'm looking more for a way of filtering the Trados document to segment after line breaks. That would be useful, but I can't figure it out.

It’s under Options/
File types/
Word 2000-2003/
Other settings/
"Treat soft returns as structure tags"

That is, if you’re working on a word 2003 document.
